Nothing says "Jeju in spring" like a sea of yellow canola under a volcanic peak. For a Jeju pre-wedding photoshoot, canola is the most forgiving flower on the island: it blooms for weeks rather than days, it suits almost every dress, and it photographs brilliantly in soft or bright light.
2027 Bloom Timing
Canola blooms in waves across the island, starting on the warm southwest coast and moving inland:
- Mid-February – March: early coastal fields (Sanbangsan area)
- Late February – April: Seongsan Ilchulbong fields
- Late March – mid-April: inland roads, including Noksan-ro, where cherry blossoms bloom overhead
Bloom shifts a week or so each year with the weather. Because canola lasts much longer than cherry blossom, it's the safest spring flower to plan a trip around.
The Best Canola Fields for Pre-Wedding Photos
1. Sanbangsan (산방산) — Early Season
Wide fields at the foot of a dramatic lava-dome mountain near the southwest coast, a short drive from Yongmeori Coast. One of the first places to turn yellow each year.
- Best for: wide landscape shots with the mountain behind
- Note: many fields are privately owned and charge a small fee
2. Seongsan Ilchulbong (성산일출봉) — The Icon
Yellow fields against the UNESCO-listed volcanic crater. Some of the most recognisable spring photos of Jeju are taken here, and it combines easily with Seopjikoji's coastal cliffs nearby.
3. Noksan-ro (녹산로) — Canola + Cherry Blossom
A road in the east of the island lined with canola on the ground and cherry trees above. In late March and early April you get yellow and pink in a single frame — the most popular spring composition we shoot.
- Best for: walking shots, layered colour
- Timing: early morning before traffic
4. Hueree Nature Park (휴애리) — Hallasan Views
A park that plants a large canola field each spring with Hallasan in the distance. Paid entry, but tidy and reliable when wild fields are patchy.
5. Seoubong, Hamdeok (서우봉) — Sea + Canola
A coastal hill above Hamdeok Beach whose slopes turn yellow in spring. The turquoise water below makes this one of the few places to get canola and the sea together, especially at sunset.
Outfit Tips for Canola Fields
- Bright white or ivory gowns stand out against yellow; lightweight skirts move well in the spring breeze.
- Grooms: light grey, beige or navy suits all balance the strong yellow.
- Casual outfit: pastel blue, white or soft green — avoid yellow, which disappears into the field.
- Canola fields can be damp in the morning — comfortable shoes for walking between spots help, with heels saved for the photo.
Canola + Cherry Blossom: One Shoot, Two Flowers
If you can travel in the last week of March or the first week of April 2027, you can photograph canola and cherry blossom on the same day. See our 2027 cherry blossom location guide for the pink half of the plan.
